white kikokushijo
here is a recent journal entry i wrote after a two week trip to london
cultural categories
in japan, you're one of three people - jun-japa ("pure" japanese), kikokushijo (returnee / raised overseas) or haafu (half japanese). there's a word for what category you're in.
the english equivalent
i met with my white kikokushijo-equivalent friends and realised there's no equivalent in english. most people are born, raised, live and die in the same spot. they were telling me that, and as result, it was more complicated to explain where they were from. they didnt know people from the area and a lot of assumptions didnt apply to them.
observations
just thought this was very interesting as this is an established thing in japan yet this is more of a phenomenon in england.
